Treating Cancer Holistically

Due to unhealthy diets, environmental toxins and a host of other reasons, cancers of all forms are on the rise. Traditional cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiation, are improving all the time, becoming safer and having fewer side effects. Still, for a variety of reasons, some patients are choosing to either forego these conventional treatments in favor of alternative cancer treatment, or are choosing to supplement traditional cancer treatment with alternatives therapies. Developing and implementing an cancer treatment plan consists of six steps. These are assessment, nutrition, detoxification, immune support, suppression and follow up.

Integrative assessment consists of assessing the whole person, not just the cancer. This may include spiritual and psychological assessment, internal assessment, diagnostic imaging and exam, labs, clinical assessment and nutritional assessment. The cancer is only one part of a patient. Healing the whole person is far more effective than simply targeting a cancer.

Many diseases, cancer included, have proven links to poor nutrition. Proper nutrition on a cellular level should always be the first line of defence any disease, not just cancer. Good nutrition creates a foundation that helps the body heal itself and consists of clean, whole foods. In some cases, supplementation may be necessary because it may be difficult to provide the level of nutrition needed to combat disease with food alone.

Pollution and contaminants in the air, food and water create toxins in the body that contribute to disease. Chemotherapy and other medications add to this toxic load. Detoxification is important to help rid the body of these toxins and help promote healing. There are several ways to help detoxify the body. Your doctor will help you choose the right methods for your specific needs.

In addition to creating a healthy environment in the body, supporting and regulating the immune system will help the body fight the cancer. There are a number of ways to support the immune system, including probiotics and herbal supplements.

Treating a cancer patient is not all about supporting the body to fight the cancer on its own, however. The next step is to directly suppress the growth and spread of the cancer. Vitamins C and D, as well as other treatments, are good at suppressing cancer growth.

Treatment does not end when the cancer is gone. A good treatment plan provides follow up care and monitoring to ensure that the cancer stays gone and to catch and treat it early if it does return.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer and want to consider alternative cancer treatment, look for a facility that uses these six steps to customize a plan best suited to your situation.
